Technical communication is primarily about developing clear, concise, usable documents (or information products) in a variety of hard-copy or online formats. This can also include analysing the information to be documented, and even being involved in the life cycle of the documents generated.

The document content does not necessarily need to be "technical" - it can be any type of information that needs to be presented in a way that informs or instructs the reader with the minimum effort on their part.
