Enhanced Membership Grades

Currently all TCANZ members pay an annual subscription and there are no qualification, experience or other requirements for membership.

New Grade of Membership

The TCANZ committee is considering introducing one or more enhanced membership grades in addition to the existing subscription-based membership. One such grade might be called "Full Member" of TCANZ, for example.

The purpose of this enhanced membership grade is to allow suitably qualified and experienced members to be recognised by their peers and by potential employers as having met certain requirements.

Entitlement

To be accepted for this membership grade you would need to provide evidence of a suitable level of experience and background knowledge. Suitability could be based on consideration of several factors chosen from the following list (for example):

  • Length of experience as a technical communicator
  • Academic qualifications
  • Full membership in other professional or industry organisations
  • Formal certification by a recognised technical communication organisation
  • Portfolio of your work
  • Approval by an interview panel of peers
  • Online multi-choice quiz
  • Support of one or more professional referees.

We anticipate that most existing TCANZ members with more than four years’ experience would be able to meet these requirements.

Members who have attained this grade would be entitled to use the letters MTCANZ (to be confirmed) after their name.

It is likely that some amount of ongoing professional development would be required each year to maintain this level of membership (such as attending meetings, courses or webinars offered by TCANZ or other professional, academic or industry organisations).
