From the President

July 2016

There's a lot happening this July – renewals, the ITx conference, the final chance to win in the Member Logo competition, and the AGM. I urge you to move swiftly to renew your membership so you can be sure to get member rates when booking any of our upcoming educational events.

Renew your membership today

July is the time of year when we ask members of TechCommNZ to resubscribe. I hope you will rush to confirm your membership, as the benefits are numerous and the opportunities, immense!

We have an impressive line-up of education events happening in the second half of this year. In October, not one, but two TC practitioners of international renown are presenting workshops here in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch: Dave Gash ( web coding for TCs), and Rahel Anne Bailie ( content strategy).

Your membership entitles you to preferential rates on all these events – and the TechCommNZ Conference in April 2017 – as well as access to publications such as the TechCommNZ Annual Salary Survey.

TechCommNZ to represent TC at the ITx Conference

Talking of member benefits, member access to the Southern Communicator journal is on my mind as I write this. I've just finished reading Saul Carliner's article, Technical Communication at a Crossroads, in which he says:

Professional associations...play a crucial role in building and promoting professions...

He goes on to say that organizations like TechCommNZ are uniquely positioned to promote the profession to organizations that purchase technical communication services... which is precisely the reason that we're sending two committee members to the ITx mega conference of information communication technology in Wellington this July.

Rob Grover and Peter Nock will be representing TechCommNZ with a colourful display, our signature jet-plane giveaways, and information about technical communication – to an audience comprising our colleagues and potential customers.

TechCommNZ has negotiated member rates for ITx. If you want to register, email info@iitp.nz stating that you're a TechCommNZ member. Include your name, email address, which "After 5" events you would like to attend, and any special dietary requirements.

Win a $100 Prezzy Card with the member logo

It will be in Christchurch on 24 July 2016, and everyone is welcome. Please register so that we know numbers for catering.
