Janet Green scoops Plain English TC prize

December

Emily Cotlier & Janet Green

TechCommNZ was well represented at the WriteMark New Zealand Plain English Awards ceremony last week. Committee members Emily Cotlier and Peter Russell, who were both on the Awards judging panel, attended and presented prizes.

Best Plain English Technical Communicator

TechCommNZ sponsors the Best Plain English Technical Communicator award, and we are delighted to congratulate this year's winner - Janet Green, Risk and Assurance team, Ministry of Social Development.

The Ministry's Risk and Assurance Group received the Best Plain English Technical Communicator Award for updating internal publications in plain English. This helps staff quickly and easily understand good risk management and recognise their part in managing risk in their day-to-day work. Read the full judges' comment and media release

We also would like to congratulate the finalists in this category:
  • Kylie McGrath , Xero
  • Laura Southgate and Ros Black , Xero
Peter Russell & Lindsay Huthnance

Best Plain English Turnaround

Congratulations also to MAS House and Contents Insurance, who have completely overhauled their policy documents. The resulting policies are longer, but are more "reader-friendly and easy to understand and interpret". Read the full judges' comment and media release

Thanks to all involved

There's a huge amount of work involved in running these awards and judging each category - but it's a wonderful way to celebrate the well-written word.

It's not too early to start thinking about your entry into next year's awards!
