Score a Prezzy card with the salary survey

The salary survey is out now and open until 31 July 2023. We’re asking you all to please set aside some time to answer - you can do it completely anonymously. If you're happy to give us your email address, you can go into the draw to win a Prezzy card as a thank you! We’ll remove all contact details once we’ve drawn the winners.

Our salary survey is the only comprehensive review of the pay our technical communication professionals receive in New Zealand.

The salary survey helps us:

  • get a better picture of what’s happening in our industry
  • promote the value of technical communicators in the workplace
  • encourage others to consider it as a career path and join our network!

The responses are interesting and insightful for those curious about the pay and related details of other technical communicators. You’ll have access to the results when we publish them if you’re a current TechCommNZ member.

A big thank you in advance goes out to everyone who takes part.

Plain Language Awards reminder

Entries to the Plain Language Awards close on 31 July 2023. Don’t forget to let us know if you’re entering the Best Plain Language Technical Communicator category – we'd love to pay for your entry.

Email businessmanager@techcomm.nz

Not quite sure if you want to enter, or what exactly it involves? We’ve pulled together all the details you might want to know in this month’s article:

Everything you need to know about entering the Plain Language Awards

A plain language standard is now here!

The International Standards Organization has published its first set of plain language guidance last week!

We think it’s really important to become familiar with it, especially if you work for one of the agencies now required to meet the Plain Language Act 2022.

Join the TechCommNZ board

The board will be down in numbers soon, with a couple of people stepping down in October. It’s critical we get new volunteers for the board now, so we have time to train and handover responsibilities smoothly.

TechCommNZ can’t work without volunteers from our members. Please consider joining our team if you have a little time to spare. We’d love to have you on board to help us keep delivering good value in our network like conferences, webinars, industry insights, connections to partnering networks, and other resources.

We have a couple of specific roles we’re looking to fill. Check out this month’s President’s report from Katie for more details on what they involve.

Shared journal update

We’re continuing to make steady progress on the shared journal with our Australian and UK partners, ASTC and ISTC. Katie shares the details about a platform and a pilot in this month’s President’s report.

ASTC conference update - call for New Zealand presenters

Are you interested in presenting at ASTC's conference this year? The conference is on 12 and 13 October 2023 at the Savoy Hotel in Melbourne. It's a hybrid event, with both in-person and remote presenters and attendees. They're very keen for New Zealand presenters (in-person or remote). If that could be you, take a look at the conference presenters' information on their website. It lets you know who can speak and includes an application form to show your interest.

ASTC conference presenters' information

They're also keen for New Zealand attendees, and we'd definitely recommend it! Keep an eye on their website for more conference information as it becomes available.
