Where do YOU stand on sentence length?

February

In our regular Southern Communicator feature, we showcase a recent article from this Australasian journal.

Dr Geoffrey Marnell's article Does Length Matter? challenges received wisdom about sentence length. He explains an in-class experiment that he conducted using two 11-word sentences to test students' ability to recall information. He draws the conclusion that a sentence's length is of less importance than the number of ideas it contains.

His article has caused a stir, and I recommend that you read it so that when the next issue of Southern Communicator arrives on your doorstep, you can read Judy Knighton's response - with Marnell's article reposing freshly in your memory-bank.

To access the journal, you must log in to the TechCommNZ website, then select Member Area > Southern Communicator Journal.
