Annual Salary Survey Results

April

Thanks to the 119 TechCommNZ members who took the opportunity to complete the TechCommNZ Annual Salary Survey . Denise Grealish, a senior research and evaluation analyst working in the government sector, has kindly collated the raw data this year. The full survey is only available to TechCommNZ members, who need to log in to the site to access the Member Area and Survey.

Here are a few of the survey findings:

  • 20% of respondents are the only technical communicator in their organisation.
  • 90% of respondents work 30 or more hours per week.
  • 42% have had no pay rise in the last 12 months (compared with 28% in 2013).
  • Economic conditions have meant:
    • 15% had difficulty getting approval for expenditures (compared with 23% in 2013);
    • 16% had redundancies in their team or had been made redundant which is very similar to the 17% redundancy rate in 2013.
  • It seems that there has been a decline in the number of contract workers, with only 16 completing our survey.

If you're looking to convince your boss or client that you are worth more, we're here to help. In the June 2013 Southern Communicator, Saul Carliner provides members with a tool for demonstrating your value - read more about this, and about communicating the value of our products and services.

The full survey includes salary and hourly rate ranges and other interesting statistics. Members can view it in the Member Area > TechCommNZ Surveys > Salary Survey section of our site. You might need to log in first.
