From the President

August 2014

This month, I would like to tell you a little more about the new TechCommNZ website, which went live just before the end of June. Towards the end of 2013, we reviewed our long-term options for website development and decided to look for a new supplier due to a range of limitations affecting the old site. Auckland-based Cyberglue looked like a good fit for us and we signed up with them in late January.

Several members of the TechCommNZ committee have worked with Cyberglue over the past six months to develop the site in the MemberConnex member relationship management system. During the development we took the opportunity to implement a number of valuable suggestions made by GDID students in their usability review of the old site.

If you have not already logged into the site, please do so as soon as possible and access your user dashboard. The dashboard provides a wide range of features, including the ability to check your current account payment status, modify your contact details, change your password and control which email lists you are subscribed to. If you have mislaid your password, simply click Login on the website’s top menu and follow the instructions.

Development of the site is by no means complete, and we plan to continue to fine-tune the layout, presentation and content over the coming months. There have naturally been some teething problems as the site settles in, so we do appreciate your patience while we resolve a number of minor issues. If you run into any difficulties when registering for events or when trying to access content, please let us know immediately ( websiteadmin@tcanz.org.nz) so that we can get the problem fixed.

You can help us to improve the site, especially by telling us about:

  • Useful resources that we could link to (such as tech comms blogs, conferences or other events, discussion forums)
  • Software tools that you use and would recommend (real users trump marketing hype every time)
  • Any problems with hyperlinks, downloadable content or presentation of content.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the website or any TechCommNZ activities, you are welcome to contact me at any time.

Steve
