Perfect your Party Pitch

The magnolias are starting to bloom in Christchurch, so Spring is on its way, thank goodness. With warmer weather comes more social events - and you know what that means... milling around with a drink in your hand being asked by strangers where you work and what you do.

Do you have a good response to this question? We all have incredibly interesting and varied jobs, but it's so easy to say something like "I'm a technical writer - I'm the one who writes the manuals". This is usually the point at which the conversation degenerates into a discussion of VCR manuals badly translated from Korean into English - which isn't a very flattering or accurate portrait of our jobs.

I'm thinking we should crowd-source our perfect party pitch. If you've got a wonderful way of describing what you do, join in and tell us - we're collecting the answers via SurveyMonkey and everyone who responds can go in the draw to win one of our lovely journals. We'll publish the results in a future newsletter.

Tell us your perfect party pitch!
